A Chicago teen is accused of trying to murder a father, 31, and the victim’s 2-year-old toddler son in a shooting on the night of July 13.

Miguel Avelar, 18, was taken into custody on Monday evening, the Chicago Police Department said in a news release about the development. The police narrative contained very little information beyond basic facts about the alleged shooting, the victims, and Avelar’s subsequent arrest:

The above offender was arrested on July 19, 2021 at 6:25 p.m. in the 1600 block of N. Parkside Ave. He was identified as the offender who shot and injured a 2-year-old male and a 31-year-old male in the 1500 block of N. Tripp (25th District) on July 13, 2021 at 7:39 p.m. The offender was placed into custody without incident and charged accordingly. No additional information is available at this time.

Avelar was scheduled to appear in Central Bond Court on Tuesday.
