The incident took place on Tuesday early morning in Perry County resulted in the death of 2-year-old child. 36-year-old David Hampton started firing and shot two of his children at a home on Montgomery County Road. The mother with her three children fled to her parents’ home in the neighborhood.
The mother of three was identified as the Perry County School system. Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the children to the hospital, where a 2-year-old was pronounced dead. The other child was immediately airlifted to Johnson City, Tennessee Hospital. The child is in stable condition. The third child and their mother are reported safe and were not harmed during the open firing.
The attack appeared to be premeditated by the authorities. Hampton has a previous record of intoxication and disturbance offenses.
He is charged with murder, domestic violence, attempted murder and two counts of wanton endangerment.
