13-Year-Old Washington, D.C., Boy Lured From Apartment and Fatally Shot; Police Search for Suspects

A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed after being lured out of his apartment in Washington, D.C., and witnesses told investigators his body was later dragged onto a nearby sidewalk, according to police and court records.

The victim was identified by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) as Ahmad Mims. Detectives are continuing to investigate the homicide and have not announced any arrests.

Boy Left Home After Someone Asked Him to Come Outside

According to Ahmad’s grandmother, Monica Mims, the teenager was inside his family’s apartment on the 1600 block of Rosedale Street on Saturday evening when someone knocked on the door and asked him to come outside.

Speaking with a local news station, Monica Mims said Ahmad left the apartment after the visitors called for him. She became emotional while recalling that it was the last time her family saw him alive.

Ring camera footage shared by the family reportedly shows two individuals, believed to be young males, standing outside the apartment door. The video shows Ahmad opening the door, seeing the two individuals, closing the door again, and then looking through the camera before eventually leaving the apartment.

Police Believe Shooting Happened Inside Building

Investigators believe Ahmad was later shot inside a building on the same block.

According to court records, a witness told police they found Ahmad lying in the building’s front stairwell, with his feet facing the entrance and his head resting on the stairs.

The witness also reported seeing a Black male wearing all-black clothing and described as having a muscular build dragging Ahmad’s body from the stairwell onto the sidewalk.

Officers Responded to Shooting Call

Metropolitan Police officers responded to the area at approximately 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a person who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found Ahmad unconscious and not breathing. Authorities said he had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Ahmad was pronounced dead a short time later.

Grandmother Says Family Is Heartbroken

Monica Mims said learning that her grandson’s body was allegedly dragged after he was shot made the tragedy even more painful.

She described the act as treating the teenager “like a bag of trash” and expressed disbelief that someone so young could allegedly carry out such an act after shooting another child.

Witnesses Suggest Possible Motive

Police have not officially identified a motive for the killing.

Ahmad’s grandmother said he had recently been involved in a fight at school, although investigators have not confirmed whether that incident played any role in the shooting.

According to court records, some witnesses told investigators they believed Ahmad was targeted because he had allegedly hit the suspected shooter’s sister. Police have not verified that claim and continue to investigate all possible motives.

Investigation Continues

The Metropolitan Police Department said the homicide investigation remains active as detectives work to identify those responsible.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to contact police or submit an anonymous tip through the department’s text tip line.

MPD also said a reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Ahmad Mims’ death.

No suspects have been publicly identified, and police have not announced any arrests as the investigation continues.
