New York City police are searching for three suspects accused of attacking and robbing a man who was sleeping aboard a Manhattan subway train early Friday morning.
According to the NYPD, the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. on a southbound No. 4 train near Union Square.
Police said the suspects approached a 32-year-old male passenger who was asleep inside the train. Authorities allege that one of the men attacked the victim by repeatedly punching him in the body while he was still on the train.
After the assault, the suspects allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone. Police said the group also attempted to take the man’s watch before fleeing from the train.
Investigators described the suspects as a group of young men who were wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack. Photos released by police show the individuals dressed mostly in black, with at least two of them appearing to cover their faces.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. Authorities said he was treated for his injuries and listed in stable condition.
The NYPD is now working to identify and locate the suspects. Police said they are looking for three males believed to be between the ages of 18 and 25.
Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the attack.
Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident, recognized the suspects, or has information about the robbery to contact the NYPD.
The case remains under investigation as detectives continue reviewing evidence and working to determine the identities of the individuals involved.
