A 62-year-old man was seriously injured after being pushed into a concrete pillar during an altercation at a Queens subway station, according to the New York Police Department.
The incident occurred on Saturday at approximately 4 p.m. at the Vernon Boulevard–Jackson Avenue subway station in Long Island City, Queens.
Fight Broke Out After Victim Exited No. 7 Train
Police said the victim had just gotten off a No. 7 subway train when he became involved in a confrontation with another passenger inside the station.
According to investigators, the argument escalated into a physical fight.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly pushed the 62-year-old man, causing him to fall backward.
Victim Struck Head on Station Pillar
As the victim fell, he hit his head against a pillar inside the subway station.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported him to a nearby hospital.
According to the NYPD, the man suffered a skull fracture as well as a laceration to his head.
Officials have not released an update on his condition.
Suspect Fled the Scene
After the assault, the suspect ran out of the subway station before officers arrived.
Police have not released a description of the suspect or identified the individual involved.
