Florida Man Allegedly Killed Elderly Woman In Her Bed For Giving Him ‘Mean Look’

A Florida man is accused of breaking into an elderly woman’s home and then strangling her to death after he gave her a “mean look.”

Patrol officers were dispatched to a home in Jacksonville on Friday after an individual claimed “he had killed someone,” according to a press release from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult female,” the press release states. “The victim was pronounced deceased by members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.”

The victim has not yet been publicly identified. She showed “signs of strangulation” and she had a “laceration” on her head, according to the arrest report obtained by Oxygen.com.

Steven Allen McInnis, 62, of Atlantic Beach has now been charged with second-degree murder with a depraved mind, according to the arrest report.

While that arrest report was highly redacted, a copy obtained by local outlet News4JAX revealed some of the alleged gruesome details

“He arrived at her house, and let himself in,” the report stated. “He stated he usually knocks on the door but this time he did not; and then he found the victim on her bed in her bedroom. He stated that she gave him a ‘mean’ look, which sent him over the edge.”

The body of the woman was found inside a deep freezer in the home’s garage, the report says. Investigators also noted what appeared to be fresh blood on a bed, a nightstand and the floor of the master bedroom as well as on the kitchen floor, the report obtained by Oxygen.com says.

McInnis’ car was in the driveway of the home when investigators arrived. He allegedly called his wife after calling 911; the relationship between him and the victim is unknown. Kenneth Fishman, a neighbor of the victim, told News4JAX that the woman was in her eighties.

“She was a very private person,” he said. “We’d see her periodically. She’d come out in her walker. She’d work on the yard a little bit.”

McInnis is being held without bond, and his next court date is scheduled for Jan 31. It’s not clear if he has a lawyer.
