Pregnant Teen Jumps In Front Of Speeding Train, Boyfriend Arrested

A 17-year-old pregnant girl killed herself by jumping in front of a speeding train. The girl’s boyfriend has been arrested in connection to the death.

On Monday, July 19, the teen left home early morning telling her sister that she was leaving for work. But the girl instead went to the railway tracks and jumped in front of a speeding train between Nahur and Mulund stations in Mumbai, India.

The railway police found the teen’s body and sent it to a government hospital for an autopsy. Following a preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the teen was at least four to five months pregnant.

However, the victim’s family alleged they were not aware the girl was pregnant and believed her stomach had bloated due to “some health issues”.

The investigators searched the area, where the incident took place, and also the victim’s home but failed to find a suicide note. The teen’s phone was recovered and has been sent to the forensic lab for a detailed examination.

Meanwhile, the girl’s 23-year-old sister filed a complaint against the victim’s 17-year-old boyfriend. In the complaint, the sister alleged that two months ago, she learned that the teen victim was having an affair with a minor boy from the neighboring slum. The sister told the teen to forget about the relationship and concentrate on her studies.

“Based on the allegations of her sister, on Tuesday a case of rape and abetment to suicide was registered against the boy. We have also added sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act as she is a minor. The accused was produced before the juvenile board,” said Senior Inspector of Kurla GRP Smita Dhakne.

The boy was sent to the Dongri observation home after he was produced before a Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Tuesday.

The exact motive behind the teen’s decision to end her life is unclear at this time. Police said the case is being investigated.

According to the police, the victim, a high school student, lived in a slum in central Mumbai with her grandmother, uncle, brother, and elder sister.

The victim had a part-time job and supported her family with the earnings, police said. The girl’s mother had married another man and had been living separately after their father’s death.

The victim and the suspect have not been named to protect their identity as they both are minors.
