A woman has accused a popular Chicago bar of racial discrimination after she says she and her friends were denied entry because of a supposed “private event,” while other patrons who were not Black were allegedly allowed to enter without being questioned.
The allegations, which were shared in a viral TikTok video, have sparked widespread discussion online, with many social media users sharing similar experiences and calling for accountability.
Group Turned Away Outside Moe’s Cantina
According to the woman, she and several friends visited Moe’s Cantina in Chicago’s Wrigleyville neighborhood expecting to spend the evening there.
She said that upon arriving at the entrance, staff informed the group they could not enter because the venue was hosting a private event.
Initially, she accepted the explanation and believed the bar was simply closed to the general public.
Woman Says She Saw Other Patrons Entering Freely
While waiting nearby for their party bus to return, the woman said she began noticing something that raised concerns.
According to her TikTok video, she watched numerous people who were not African American approach the entrance and gain admission to the bar without any apparent restrictions.
Curious about the situation, she said she asked several of those entering whether they were attending a private event.
According to the woman, every person she questioned said they were not aware of any private party taking place inside.
She claimed this led her to believe that the explanation given to her group was not genuine.
Claims Black Couple Was Also Denied Entry
The woman said her concerns grew stronger after she witnessed another Black couple attempt to enter the establishment.
According to her account, that couple was also denied entry, while other non-Black patrons continued walking inside without issue.
She described the situation as obvious discrimination, saying the staff “didn’t even try to play it off.”
In the viral video, she stated:
“This is blatant discrimination.”
Manager Allegedly Avoided Eye Contact
The woman said she confronted the bar’s manager about what she believed was discriminatory treatment.
According to her, the manager was unable or unwilling to make eye contact during the conversation and did not provide a satisfactory explanation for why her group had been denied entry.
She later shared her experience on TikTok, where the video quickly gained significant attention.
