Chicago police are warning residents and visitors about a series of violent robberies in the South Loop area after two incidents this weekend where groups of suspects allegedly surrounded victims, attacked them and stole their belongings.
The Chicago Police Department issued a community alert Sunday following the robberies, saying the suspects have used physical violence during the attacks.
According to police, the groups have surrounded victims before punching, kicking and beating them. The suspects then stole personal items, including cellphones and jewelry, from the victims.
Two Robberies Reported in South Loop
The first robbery happened Friday evening at approximately 7:58 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Michigan Avenue near Grant Park.
Police said a group of individuals approached the victim, surrounded them, and carried out the robbery using force.
The second incident occurred early Sunday morning between 1 a.m. and 1:16 a.m. in the first block of East Roosevelt Road, located south and west of the first robbery location.
Authorities said the circumstances of both incidents appear similar, with multiple suspects working together to attack victims before taking their belongings.
Police Say Large Groups Are Involved
Investigators said between 10 and 16 males have been involved in each robbery.
The suspects are believed to be teenagers or young adults, with police estimating their ages range from 14 to 19 years old.
Authorities have not released additional details about the suspects’ identities or whether any arrests have been made.

Chicago police are continuing to investigate the robberies and are working to determine whether the incidents are connected.
Officials are urging residents and visitors in the South Loop area to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.
