A 23-year-old Florida man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he shot his mother to death, set her body on fire, and later told investigators that he had finally “had enough” following years of conflict.
George Beemer has been charged with second-degree murder, arson, and abuse of a corpse, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
911 Call Led Deputies to the Home
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, deputies were first dispatched at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 11000 block of Ranchette Road in Fort Myers after Beemer called 911 complaining of chest pains.
About 30 minutes later, deputies returned to the same residence after another emergency call reported a fire at the property.
The second caller, identified as one of Beemer’s friends, told authorities that Beemer had admitted to killing his mother before setting the house on fire.
Burned Body Found Inside Residence
When deputies entered the home, they discovered the burned body of a woman.
Investigators believe the victim is Beemer’s mother, but officials said her identity had not yet been positively confirmed because the body was severely burned.
Authorities also recovered a firearm fitted with a suppressor near the victim’s body.
Friend Says Suspect Had Talked About Killing His Mother
Detectives interviewed the friend who reported the fire.
According to the affidavit, the friend described Beemer as someone who had few friends, was an avid firearm enthusiast, and frequently experienced problems with both his mother and father.
The friend told investigators that Beemer had repeatedly stated in the past that he wanted to kill his mother, but he believed those comments were merely angry remarks and did not think Beemer would act on them.
On the morning of the incident, the friend said Beemer called him and asked him to come to the house.
When he arrived, Beemer allegedly told him that he had killed his mother because he “had to do it.”
Investigators say Beemer then brought the friend inside the residence and showed him the victim’s body.
Friend Waited Until Beemer Left to Call Police
According to investigators, the two later left the residence and smoked marijuana together.
The affidavit states that Beemer then called 911, claiming he was experiencing chest pains.
After emergency medical personnel transported Beemer to the hospital, the friend contacted authorities to report both the fire and Beemer’s alleged confession.
The friend reportedly explained that he had been afraid to call law enforcement while Beemer was present because he knew the suspect possessed several firearms.
Detectives Say Beemer Confessed
After receiving treatment at the hospital and being advised of his Miranda rights, Beemer was interviewed by detectives.
According to the arrest affidavit, he admitted to shooting his mother, then pouring gasoline around her body and setting it on fire.
Investigators said Beemer claimed he burned the body because “she wanted to be cremated.”
The affidavit further states that Beemer alleged his mother had constantly put him down and had molested him, telling detectives that “today was the day he had enough.”
According to investigators, Beemer said he and his mother stood facing each other and looked into each other’s eyes before she screamed, and he shot her.
He also allegedly told detectives that she was already dead before he ignited the fire.
Authorities have not verified Beemer’s allegations about his mother, and no supporting evidence has been publicly released.
Sheriff Condemns the Killing
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno described the case as exceptionally disturbing.
“This is one of the most horrific acts of violence imaginable,” Marceno said. “The cruelty in this case is beyond comprehension, and I am incredibly proud of the swift, coordinated response by our deputies, fire and EMS personnel, and Major Crimes detectives, whose relentless work uncovered the truth, and justice began without delay.”
Investigation Continues
Beemer remains in custody on charges of second-degree murder, arson, and abuse of a corpse.
Investigators continue working to formally identify the victim through forensic examination due to the condition of the remains.
The allegations outlined in the arrest affidavit have not been proven in court, and Beemer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
