A Pennsylvania woman is facing attempted murder charges after police say she repeatedly stabbed her longtime boyfriend with a serrated knife during an argument that began when he tried to end their relationship and told her to leave his home.
According to investigators, Jessica Eustache, 34, allegedly attacked the victim inside his Upper Darby Township, Pennsylvania, residence on July 9, leaving him with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen. She is now being held on $1 million bail while facing several felony charges.
Relationship Ended in Violent Confrontation
According to a criminal complaint, the victim told police that Eustache had been living with him and that he had decided to end their eight-year relationship.
During the argument, he reportedly told her to “get the f— out of my life” and demanded that she leave his home.
The victim later told officers that Eustache became enraged, grabbed a knife, and began chasing him.
He reportedly described the situation to investigators by saying she was “crazy” and explained that after he ordered her to leave, she started running around with a knife before stabbing him.
The victim suffered chest and abdominal wounds
According to police, the victim attempted to disarm Eustache during the struggle.
Instead, investigators say she repeatedly stabbed him, causing injuries to both his chest and abdomen.
Officers responded after receiving reports of a stabbing at the residence.
When they arrived, Eustache was allegedly outside the home screaming, while the victim remained inside attempting to stop the bleeding by pressing a rag against his wounds until help arrived.
Emergency responders treated the victim at the scene.
Suspect Claimed She Only “Poked” Him
According to investigators, Eustache admitted she had been holding a serrated silver knife during the argument.
However, she allegedly told officers that she had only “poked” the victim with the knife.
Police said the severity and location of the victim’s injuries were inconsistent with that description.
Police Call Attack a Violent Domestic Assault
Upper Darby Police Department Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt said investigators believe the attack could easily have ended in the victim’s death.
He stated that calling the stabbing a “poke” did not diminish the seriousness of the incident, emphasizing that the victim could have been killed.
Bernhardt described the incident as a deliberate and violent domestic assault rather than an accident or misunderstanding.
Couple Had History of Previous Incidents
Investigators said the couple had been together for approximately eight years before the victim decided to end the relationship.
Police also acknowledged there had been multiple previous incidents involving the pair.
According to Bernhardt, the tragedy might have been avoided had one of the two left the relationship earlier.
Facing Attempted Murder and Other Charges
Court records show Eustache has been charged with:
- Attempted murder
- Two counts of aggravated assault
- Recklessly endangering another person
- Possession of an instrument of crime
Authorities also noted that Eustache has a prior criminal history that includes arrests for aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and harassment.
Court Hearing Scheduled
Following her arrest, Eustache was ordered held on $1 million bail.
She is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on July 23, where prosecutors will continue pursuing the attempted murder and related felony charges.
