Authorities have identified the two people who were killed in a head-on crash in Clover, South Carolina, that also left six others injured, including five children.
The collision occurred Saturday afternoon on North Paraham Road, prompting a lengthy road closure as emergency crews responded and investigators examined the scene.
Crash Happened Saturday Afternoon
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 3 p.m. on North Paraham Road, south of W.H. Stowe Road in Clover.
Investigators said an 18-year-old driver, identified by the York County Coroner’s Office as Justin Meenaghan, was traveling in a Ford Mustang when he lost control of the vehicle.
Authorities said the Mustang crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Kia Sorento driven by 36-year-old Brooklyn Gilfillan.
Both Drivers Died at the Scene
Emergency responders arrived at the crash site and found both drivers with fatal injuries.
The York County Coroner’s Office confirmed that:
- Justin Meenaghan, 18, the driver of the Ford Mustang, died at the scene.
- Brooklyn Gilfillan, 36, the driver of the Kia Sorento, also died at the scene.
Both were pronounced dead where the collision occurred.
Six Others Injured, Including Five Children
Authorities said six additional people were injured in the crash.
The injured victims were all occupants of the Kia Sorento and included five children.
Emergency medical personnel transported the injured passengers to area hospitals for treatment.
Officials have not released information regarding their identities or the extent of their injuries.
Road Closed for Several Hours
Following the collision, North Paraham Road was closed between Highway 55 and Highway 557 while emergency crews cleared the scene and investigators documented evidence.
The road remained closed for several hours.
At approximately 8:15 p.m. Saturday, the York County Sheriff’s Office announced that the roadway had been reopened to traffic.
Investigation Ongoing
The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.
Authorities have not released any additional details as the investigation remains active.
