A Charlotte man has been arrested in connection with a road rage shooting that left a Gaston County father with life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the head while riding on Interstate 485 last month, according to court records.
The suspect, Dailyn Kevin Young, 23, of Charlotte, is now facing multiple felony charges related to the June 7 shooting.
Suspect Charged Weeks After Shooting
According to court documents, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested Young on July 10 on unrelated charges.
Three days later, investigators formally charged him with:
- Two counts of attempted first-degree murder
- Two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property
The charges stem from the shooting of Parish Killian, a 58-year-old Gaston County resident.
Investigators Say Shots Were Fired on Interstate 485
An arrest affidavit states that Young was driving a stolen silver 2020 Infiniti Q50 on the Interstate 485 outer loop in Charlotte on June 7 when the shooting occurred.
Police allege Young fired two rounds from a black 9 mm handgun into Killian’s vehicle during the confrontation.
One of the bullets struck Parish Killian in the head, causing life-threatening injuries.
Authorities said the suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
Father and Son Were Traveling Together
At the time of the incident, Parish Killian was riding in the passenger seat while his 25-year-old son, Ryan Killian, was driving.
Speaking after the shooting, Ryan said the confrontation began when a silver sedan suddenly cut in front of their vehicle on Interstate 485.
Ryan responded by sounding his horn.
He later said he never imagined that honking would lead to violence.
According to Ryan, if he had believed the situation would escalate into a shooting, he would never have used the horn.
Argument Escalated Before Gunfire
Ryan Killian said the driver of the silver sedan initially pulled alongside the driver’s side window and attempted to speak with him.
Ryan said he chose not to respond.
The sedan then moved next to the passenger side of the vehicle, where Parish Killian was seated.
According to Ryan, his father and the other driver exchanged words as both vehicles continued traveling along the interstate.
Moments later, Ryan said he heard gunfire.
Glass shattered inside the vehicle, and he immediately saw his father collapse in the passenger seat after being struck.
Police Later Located the Suspect
According to court records, officers encountered Young again on July 10 while he was allegedly driving the same stolen Infiniti.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle, leading to additional charges against Young, including:
- Possession of a stolen vehicle
- Fleeing to elude law enforcement
Investigators also served outstanding warrants related to a separate domestic incident that allegedly occurred in January.
Following his arrest, detectives connected Young to the June road rage shooting and filed the attempted murder charges.
Suspect Remains in Jail
Young is currently being held without bond at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.
Authorities have not released additional information regarding the investigation or whether further charges may be filed.
Investigation Continues
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police continue to investigate the road rage shooting.
The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly confrontations on the road can escalate into serious violence. Investigators have not released additional details about the evidence that linked Young to the shooting, and the case remains pending in court.
