The Brother Rice High School community in Chicago is mourning the loss of Patrick Noonan, a recent graduate who died at the age of 17.
Noonan graduated from Brother Rice High School in May 2026, and school officials remembered him as a caring student, athlete, and mentor whose presence had a lasting impact on classmates, teammates, and the entire school community.
School Remembers Noonan as a “Crusader Through and Through”
Brother Rice High School announced Noonan’s death through a social media statement, describing the news as a moment of “profound sadness” and offering condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and teammates.
School officials said Noonan represented the values of the school and was a dedicated member of the Brother Rice community.
“Patrick was a Crusader through and through,” the school said, highlighting his involvement as a:
- Peer mentor
- Kairos retreat leader
- Member of the school’s football team
Officials said Noonan’s kindness and willingness to support others made him stand out among his peers.
“Patrick’s impact was felt in all aspects of our school,” Brother Rice said. “He loved his friends deeply and will be forever remembered as the type of person who would always help his friends.”
Family, Friends Remember Beloved Teen
According to Noonan’s obituary, he is survived by his parents, two siblings, grandparents, extended family members, and many friends who knew and loved him.
The family said he would have celebrated his 18th birthday on August 19.
The cause of Noonan’s death was not publicly disclosed by Brother Rice High School or in his obituary.
Funeral Services Planned in Oak Lawn
Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Oak Lawn community.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church in Oak Lawn.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the same church, followed by burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The family has requested that those wishing to honor Noonan make memorial donations to The MuSic Movement instead of sending flowers.
Community Offers Support and Prayers
Brother Rice offered prayers and support to everyone affected by Noonan’s passing.
“May God grant Patrick eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him,” the school said. “May the Lord bring comfort, strength, and peace to all who knew and loved him.”
Another local school, Mother McAuley Liberal Arts High School, also shared condolences with the Noonan family and the Brother Rice community.
“Our hearts are with the Noonan family and Brother Rice community as they mourn the loss of Patrick Noonan ’26,” the school said. “We join in prayer for Patrick’s family, friends, classmates, teammates and all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.”
