A man and woman were killed after being thrown from an out-of-control motorcycle that crashed into multiple vehicles on a Queens highway during Thursday evening’s rush hour, according to police.
The deadly crash happened on the eastbound Grand Central Parkway near the exit for the Jackie Robinson Parkway at around 6:30 p.m.
Police said the two victims were riding a CFMoto 650 motorcycle when the driver suddenly lost control, and the bike began spinning before striking several vehicles.
Motorcycle Collides With Multiple Vehicles
According to investigators, the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on the Grand Central Parkway when it collided with a white BMW driven by a 28-year-old woman.
After hitting the BMW, police said the motorcycle continued moving and struck a blue Ford Explorer operated by a 39-year-old man.
The force of the crash caused both people riding the motorcycle to be thrown onto the roadway.
The motorcycle occupants hit the pavement, suffering serious injuries, while the motorcycle continued traveling without them.
Police said the bike later struck two additional vehicles:
- A Chevrolet Express van driven by a 37-year-old man
- A Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by a 73-year-old man
Motorcycle Rider and Passenger Die
Emergency responders rushed to the scene following the crash.
The motorcycle driver suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers, police said.
The passenger was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities had not released the names or ages of either motorcycle victim as of Friday. Their relationship to each other was also not immediately known.
Other Drivers Evaluated After Crash
Five people inside the other vehicles involved in the crash were evaluated by emergency medical personnel.
Police said three of those individuals were taken to hospitals with minor injuries.
No other fatalities were reported.
Investigation Continues
Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the crash.
Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances that caused the motorcycle to lose control and collide with multiple vehicles during the busy evening commute.
Authorities have not released additional details about whether speed, road conditions, or other factors played a role in the deadly collision.
The investigation remains ongoing.
