Nine people were injured after gunfire erupted outside a nightclub in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood early Sunday morning, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
The shooting happened shortly after midnight outside the Reign Event Center, located at 2901 Hennepin Avenue. Police said 911 calls began coming in around 12:27 a.m. reporting that multiple people had been shot.
In response, Minneapolis police officers from all five precincts were dispatched to the area. Authorities said the first officers arrived at the scene within about one minute of receiving the emergency calls.
Four Victims Found at Scene
When officers arrived, they found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds outside the event center.
Police identified one victim as a 20-year-old man who had injuries considered potentially life-threatening. Three other victims found at the scene — a 21-year-old man and two women, ages 27 and 21 — suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
All four victims were transported to Hennepin Healthcare for treatment.
Additional Victims Arrive at Hospitals
Police said five additional victims later arrived at local hospitals on their own.
An 18-year-old man walked into Hennepin Healthcare with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to investigators.
Four more injured people went to Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Police said those victims included:
- A 20-year-old man with apparent non-life-threatening injuries
- A 21-year-old man with apparent non-life-threatening injuries
- A 22-year-old man with apparent non-life-threatening injuries
- A 21-year-old man suffering from potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds
The victim with the more serious injuries was later transferred from Abbott Northwestern Hospital to Hennepin Healthcare by ambulance.
Police Investigating What Led to Gunfire
Investigators believe a large crowd had gathered outside the Reign Event Center when an altercation broke out and escalated into gunfire.
Police are working to determine exactly what caused the confrontation and whether any shots were fired from a vehicle.
No arrests have been announced, and authorities said the investigation remains active.
The Minneapolis Police Department is continuing to collect evidence, speak with witnesses and review information as detectives work to identify those responsible for the shooting.
