A North Carolina man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he crashed into the back of an ambulance at more than 100 mph in Gaston County, causing a devastating wreck that claimed the life of a Cleveland County paramedic and injured two other people.
The fatal collision occurred Monday morning on U.S. Highway 74 near Shady Grove Road and remains under investigation by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Ambulance Struck During U-Turn
According to investigators, the crash happened when an ambulance was attempting to make a U-turn on U.S. 74 near Shady Grove Road in Gaston County.
Authorities said Jared Logan was driving a Dodge Challenger at speeds exceeding 100 mph when the vehicle slammed into the rear of the ambulance.
The force of the impact caused the ambulance to overturn and come to rest on its side.
Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene to rescue those inside the ambulance and provide medical assistance.
Paramedic Ashley Moore Killed
Officials identified the victim as Ashley Moore, a Cleveland County paramedic and field training officer.
According to county officials, Moore had dedicated nine years to Cleveland County Emergency Medical Services, serving both as a frontline paramedic and as a mentor responsible for training new emergency responders.
Her death has prompted an outpouring of grief throughout the local emergency services community, where she was remembered for her commitment to patient care and public service.
Two Others Injured
Authorities said two additional people who were inside the ambulance at the time of the crash also sustained injuries.
Those injured included:
- The ambulance driver.
- A patient who was being transported.
Both were taken for medical treatment, and officials said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Driver Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Following the investigation, authorities arrested Jared Logan and charged him with several offenses related to the deadly collision.
The charges include:
- Second-degree murder.
- Driving while impaired (DWI).
- Reckless driving.
- Failure to wear a seatbelt.
Investigators allege that Logan’s excessive speed and impairment played significant roles in the crash.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Family Reacts to Crash
Logan’s father, Charles Logan, spoke publicly following the incident, saying he was shocked to learn that his son had been driving the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
He described the incident as a terrible decision and expressed sympathy for everyone affected.
Charles Logan also said he was praying for the victim’s family, the injured ambulance occupants, and all those impacted by the tragedy.

Investigators are continuing to examine the events leading up to the collision, including the vehicle’s speed, the alleged impairment of the driver, and other contributing factors.
