A 19-year-old California man is back in custody after authorities say he allegedly committed another jewelry store theft less than a day after being released from jail on burglary and theft-related charges.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Andre Wiley was arrested last week after investigators accused him of taking part in a jewelry store theft with two other suspects shortly after his release from the Placer County Jail.
Authorities said Wiley had been released on his own recognizance while facing existing charges related to burglary, conspiracy, and grand theft. Investigators allege that while he was already on pretrial probation for those offenses, he became involved in another similar crime.
The sheriff’s office said Wiley was allegedly joined by two other men, 18-year-olds Andrew Ivy and Kameryus Mayhand, in the jewelry store incident.
Investigators said the three suspects entered a Sacramento-area jewelry store together. According to authorities, Ivy and Mayhand distracted employees by looking at merchandise inside the store while Wiley sat at a consultation desk.
Police allege that Wiley used the opportunity to steal two pieces of jewelry before the group quickly left the business.
Surveillance footage released by authorities appeared to capture the incident from start to finish. The video reportedly showed the suspects entering the store, walking around while appearing to browse, and then suddenly leaving the store after the alleged theft.
After the suspects left the jewelry store, law enforcement officers began searching for the vehicle connected to the group.
The Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit later located the suspects’ vehicle, leading officers to arrest Wiley, Ivy, and Mayhand.
Authorities said the stolen jewelry was also recovered during the investigation.
Following the arrests, deputies discovered that Wiley had been released from the Placer County Jail less than 24 hours earlier. Investigators said he was already on pretrial probation for burglary, conspiracy, and grand theft charges — the same types of crimes he is now accused of committing again.
The sheriff’s office highlighted Wiley’s previous legal status as part of the investigation, saying the alleged theft occurred while he was under court supervision.
Wiley, Ivy, and Mayhand were all booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail.
The three suspects are facing allegations including burglary, conspiracy, and grand theft. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue reviewing evidence and the suspects’ alleged involvement in the jewelry store theft.
