Serious injuries reported in Carter County crash

A woman suffered serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on State Route 91 in Carter County, Tennessee. Authorities say the collision occurred in the Stoney Creek area and resulted in both drivers being taken to the hospital, with one transported by medical helicopter.

According to a crash report released by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), the accident happened on State Route 91 near Lewis Cole Loop.

Investigators said a Jeep Wrangler was traveling northbound when it crossed into the continuous center turning lane before entering the southbound lane. The Jeep then collided with a Toyota Corolla that was traveling southbound.

The impact left the driver of the Toyota, a 54-year-old woman, with serious injuries. Emergency responders arranged for her to be airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center (JCMC) for specialized medical treatment.

The driver of the Jeep, a 62-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the crash. He was also transported to Johnson City Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

Following the preliminary investigation, the Tennessee Highway Patrol charged the Jeep driver in connection with the crash. Officials said additional charges are pending as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released the identities of either driver. Further information, including any additional charges or findings, is expected once the investigation is complete.
