A suspicious death investigation is underway in Burke County after deputies discovered a person dead inside a tent early Monday morning, authorities said.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded shortly after 3 a.m. to a location on Barus Pond Loop, an area located south of Valdese, following a report that led officers to the scene.
When deputies arrived, they found a deceased person inside a tent. Investigators immediately secured the area and began examining the circumstances surrounding the death.
Authorities have not released the identity of the person found dead, nor have they provided details about the person’s age, background, or how long they may have been at the location before being discovered.
