Two children who were the subject of an AMBER Alert in Lexington were found safe in Burke County on Monday morning, according to the Lexington Police Department.
Authorities issued the alert early Monday after officers learned that two young children had been taken in a vehicle without permission. Police said the circumstances surrounding the children’s disappearance prompted the emergency alert as officers worked to locate them.
Children Located Safely in Burke County
A short time after the AMBER Alert was issued, law enforcement officials confirmed that the children had been located safely in Burke County.
Police said the children were found unharmed and were in the process of being reunited with their legal guardian. Authorities did not release additional details about where exactly in Burke County the children were found or who was involved in the incident.
Burke County is located approximately 82 miles from Lexington, a trip that typically takes about an hour and a half by car.

Officials have not released further information about the circumstances that led to the children being taken, the vehicle involved, or whether any arrests have been made.
