A 21-year-old Michigan man has been convicted of murdering his 63-year-old boyfriend and roommate following a fatal argument inside the home they shared, prosecutors announced.
Kayvon Briscoe-Hall was found guilty on Wednesday of second-degree murder and felony firearm charges in the death of Roger Willie, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
Shooting Took Place at Warren Home
The fatal shooting occurred in October 2025 at the couple’s residence on Marr Avenue in Warren, a suburb of Detroit.
Police responded to reports of gunfire and found Willie suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately attempted lifesaving measures before he was transported to Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Investigators said Briscoe-Hall fired three shots, with the final two striking Willie.
Defense Questioned Whether Shooting Was Intentional
During the trial, Briscoe-Hall’s attorney, Grace Crivello, argued that jurors should consider whether the shooting resulted from a perceived threat rather than an intentional act, although the defense did not formally claim self-defense.
Addressing the jury, Crivello asked whether Briscoe-Hall’s actions were justified under the circumstances or whether they amounted to murder.
Court testimony also revealed that the couple had been living together since 2023 after meeting through a dating app. Briscoe-Hall claimed the significant age difference created a power imbalance in their relationship.
Argument Turned Deadly
According to testimony, the two were arguing when Briscoe-Hall retreated into a bedroom and yelled at Willie to “Get out.”
Moments later, Briscoe-Hall fired three rounds, killing Willie.
Prosecutors argued that the confrontation was unlike the couple’s previous disputes.
Assistant Prosecutor Maria Panchenko told jurors that Briscoe-Hall intentionally escalated the argument in an effort to get his way.
While acknowledging that Briscoe-Hall had told Willie not to enter the bedroom, Panchenko argued that the room belonged to both men and that entering it did not justify the use of deadly force.
“It’s a shared room,” the prosecutor told the jury.
Neighbor Testified About Growing Hostility
During an earlier preliminary hearing, prosecutors presented testimony from the victim’s next-door neighbor, who described a pattern of escalating conflict in the months leading up to the shooting.
The neighbor said Briscoe-Hall frequently yelled at Willie, slammed doors during arguments, and had previously caused a cut on Willie’s forehead.
The witness also recalled overhearing Briscoe-Hall speaking on the phone in August 2025, while home alone, allegedly saying, “Oooooo girl, this is all going to be mine soon.”
Prosecutors presented the statement as evidence suggesting growing hostility before the fatal shooting.
Sentencing Set for August
Following the guilty verdict on charges of second-degree murder and felony firearm, Briscoe-Hall now faces a lengthy prison sentence.
He is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on August 19, when a judge will determine his punishment.
