Milwaukee shooting: Father, business owner killed, family says

A Milwaukee man who was known as a father, business owner, and beloved family member was killed in a shooting Wednesday near Appleton Avenue and Congress Street, according to Milwaukee police and his relatives.

Police said the victim, a 44-year-old man, was shot and killed in the area. His family later identified him as Keyawn Davis, the owner of It’Za Xotic smoke shop located in the shopping center near the scene of the shooting.

Family Identifies Victim as Local Business Owner

Davis’ family said he was a father who lived in Madison and had opened the smoke shop more than a year ago. They described him as someone who worked hard to build his business and provide for his loved ones.

Investigators remained at the scene for hours following the shooting. FOX6 News crews observed police officers and detectives repeatedly entering and leaving the smoke shop as they worked to collect evidence.

Authorities were seen photographing the business and dusting areas for fingerprints as part of the homicide investigation.

Family Remembers Davis as Loved One

Davis’ relatives said they were devastated by his death and are demanding answers.

His sister, Kemeelah Fair, said the loss was difficult to understand and described Davis as someone who did not deserve what happened.

“I’m just lost for words because he didn’t deserve what happened to him,” Fair said. “We will see justice — we will seek justice.”

Davis’ niece, Mariah Fair, also shared memories of the man she knew as a caring family member.

“We’ll miss him always,” she said. “I’ll miss him laughing, trying my mom’s food, taking pictures, taking me to the mall.”

Family members said Davis’ death has left a painful void among those who knew and loved him.
