A 28-year-old Madison Heights man is facing multiple felony charges after police executed a search warrant at his home and allegedly discovered thousands of suspected illegal pills, drug manufacturing materials, firearms, and ammunition.
Authorities say the investigation began after residents reported suspected narcotics activity in their neighborhood, prompting officers to launch an investigation that led to the search.
Community Complaints Prompt Investigation
According to the Madison Heights Police Department, officers carried out the search warrant on July 9 at a residence located in a neighborhood south of 12 Mile Road and west of Dequindre Road.
Police said the operation was initiated after receiving information from community members who reported suspected drug trafficking taking place at the home.
Following the investigation, officers searched the residence and arrested Alex Gelement, 28.
Thousands of Pills and Drug Manufacturing Materials Seized
During the search, investigators reported finding a significant quantity of suspected drugs and equipment allegedly used to manufacture illegal pills.
According to police, officers seized:
- 4,367 prescription and allegedly illicitly manufactured pills
- 2,854 empty pill capsules
- 319 grams of various chemicals believed to be used in illegal pill production
Authorities said additional laboratory testing will determine the exact composition of the seized substances.
Nine Firearms and Thousands of Rounds of Ammunition Recovered
In addition to the suspected narcotics, investigators also recovered multiple weapons from the residence.
Police reported seizing:
- Nine firearms
- Thousands of rounds of ammunition in various calibers
The presence of both firearms and suspected narcotics resulted in several additional criminal charges.
Eight Criminal Charges Authorized
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office approved an eight-count criminal warrant against Gelement.
The charges include:
- Three counts of felony firearm
- One count of delivery or manufacture of methamphetamine or ecstasy
- One count of delivery or manufacture of cocaine
- One count of delivery or manufacture of a Schedule V controlled substance
- Two counts of possession of controlled substance analogues
Investigators noted that additional charges may be filed depending on the results of forensic laboratory testing and chemical analysis of other evidence collected during the search.
Court Appearance and Bond
Gelement was arraigned in the 43rd District Court, where a judge set his bond at $300,000 cash or surety.
As of Thursday, he remained in custody at the Oakland County Jail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for July 22.
Police Stress Importance of Community Reporting
Following the arrest, the Madison Heights Police Department thanked community members whose information helped launch the investigation.
In a statement, the department emphasized that drug trafficking has far-reaching impacts beyond those directly involved.
Police said illegal drug activity contributes to violence, addiction, additional criminal offenses, and a decline in neighborhood safety and quality of life.
The department encouraged residents who witness suspicious or potentially criminal activity not to assume someone else will report it, noting that information provided by community members can play a critical role in ongoing investigations.
Authorities also reminded Madison Heights residents that concerns about suspected criminal activity can be reported directly to the Madison Heights Police Department as investigations into the case continue.
