A week-long search for a missing dirt biker in the California desert has ended in tragedy after authorities confirmed that the body of a 63-year-old Long Beach woman was discovered in a remote area of the El Mirage Dry Lake region.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department announced that Julie Elizabeth Goforth, who disappeared while riding her dirt bike on July 10, was found deceased on Thursday afternoon. Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Search Began After Rider Failed to Return
According to the sheriff’s department, Goforth was reported missing at approximately 10:20 a.m. on Friday, July 10, after she became separated from friends while riding dirt bikes at El Mirage Dry Lake, a well-known off-road recreation area in San Bernardino County.
Officials said Goforth had been riding a Kawasaki KLX300R dirt bike with a friend when she decided to stop riding and head back toward their parked vehicle for a break.
When her riding companion later returned to the vehicle, Goforth was nowhere to be found. Her dirt bike was also missing, prompting immediate concern and the launch of a large-scale search operation.
Body Found in Remote Desert Area
After nearly a week of searching, deputies located Goforth’s remains at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16.
The sheriff’s department said her body was discovered in a remote desert area, but investigators have not revealed the exact location or provided additional details about the scene.
Authorities also have not confirmed whether her Kawasaki dirt bike was recovered alongside her remains.
Officials stated that the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
