A Georgia man is facing murder charges after authorities say he fatally stabbed a homeowner who had opened his home to him and his wife free of charge while they worked to rebuild their lives.
Jacob Brady has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of 37-year-old Josh Addison, according to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies Find Victim With Multiple Stab Wounds
The fatal incident happened Sunday night at a residence in the 300 block of Amsterdam Way in Dallas, Georgia.
Deputies responding to a 911 call found a man on the back porch covered in blood. Inside the home, officers discovered Josh Addison suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Brady was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Paulding County Jail. He remains held without bond, and a future court appearance has not yet been announced.
Police Say Argument Turned Deadly
According to investigators, Addison had agreed to let Brady and his wife move into his home after the couple experienced a difficult period in their lives.
Authorities told local media that an argument broke out while the couple was moving into the residence. During the confrontation, Brady allegedly stabbed Addison multiple times in the chest.
Investigators have not publicly disclosed what sparked the dispute.
911 Caller Reported Husband’s Attack
According to a recording of the emergency call obtained by local media, Brady’s wife called 911 after discovering Addison.
During the call, she reportedly told the dispatcher, “My husband attacked him with a knife,” prompting emergency responders to rush to the scene.
Family Says Victim Wanted to Help
Addison’s relatives said Brady had recently been released from jail and needed a temporary place to live. Wanting to help, Addison offered the couple a place to stay without charging rent until they could find permanent housing.
His family said that helping others was simply part of who he was.
His mother, Ann Gazell, described her son as someone who cared deeply for people facing hardships.
“His heart was for those that didn’t have anything, and not that Josh had much, but he would give you whatever he had to try and take care of you,” Gazell said.
Family Endures Another Heartbreaking Loss
Gazell said losing Josh marks the third child she has lost. One of her children died shortly after birth, while her daughter passed away from cancer at just 24 years old.
Remembering her son, she recalled how Josh and his brother loved playing harmless pranks on their sister, such as hiding plastic bugs in her bed or leaving fake messes around the house to make her laugh.

A GoFundMe created in Addison’s memory describes him as a loving, caring, and kind man who was always willing to help friends and strangers alike.
The fundraiser says that once Josh considered someone a friend, he would do everything he could to support them whenever they needed help.
Addison is survived by his teenage daughter, whose family is now mourning his unexpected death.
Murder Case Continues
Jacob Brady remains in the Paulding County Jail without bond.
