A violent night across Chicago left three people dead and at least 14 others injured after multiple shootings were reported in different neighborhoods early Sunday morning, according to police.
The shootings happened across several parts of the city, including Roseland, Hermosa, the West Side, Englewood, Humboldt Park and the Far South Side. Chicago police said investigations into each incident are ongoing, and no arrests have been announced.
Woman Killed in Roseland Shooting
The first deadly shooting happened shortly before 1 a.m. in the Roseland neighborhood near the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue.
Police said a gunman opened fire into a crowd of people gathered outside. A 20-year-old woman was struck by gunfire and is expected to survive.
A second woman, 24, was also shot and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the shooting and are working to identify those responsible.
Shooting During Argument in Hermosa
About eight minutes later, officers responded to another shooting in the Hermosa neighborhood on Chicago’s Northwest Side.
Police said the incident began during a verbal argument inside a home in the 2000 block of North Pulaski Road. The dispute escalated when one person pulled out a gun.
A 22-year-old man was shot in the finger while attempting to disarm the armed person, police said. The suspect fled before officers arrived.
The injured man was taken for medical treatment, and detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.
Man Shot on West Side
Only minutes later, another shooting was reported on the West Side in the 500 block of North Leclaire Avenue.
Police said a 30-year-old man was standing outside when he was shot in the leg.
He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital and was listed in serious condition.
61-Year-Old Man Killed in Englewood
Three minutes after that shooting, officers discovered another gunshot victim in the Englewood neighborhood.
A 61-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his back in the 5600 block of South Racine Avenue.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have not released additional information about what led to the shooting or whether any suspects have been identified.
Man Shot While Sitting in Car on Cermak Road
Around 40 minutes later, another shooting occurred in the 3400 block of West Cermak Road.
Police said a 22-year-old man was sitting inside his vehicle when a white Jeep pulled alongside him. Someone inside the Jeep opened fire, striking the man in the body.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
Investigators are working to determine who was responsible for the attack.
Six People Shot at Humboldt Park Block Party
Shortly after 2 a.m., another shooting injured six people during a gathering in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
Police said a group of people was outside in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue when an unidentified shooter opened fire, hitting multiple victims.
A 35-year-old man and a 36-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and were taken to hospitals in critical condition.
Four additional victims were also injured, but their conditions were not considered life-threatening. They were reported to be in good condition.
Deadly Shooting on Far South Side
Just after 3 a.m., police responded to another deadly shooting on Chicago’s Far South Side.
Officers said a man of unknown age and a 32-year-old woman were standing outside in the 8900 block of South Escanaba Avenue when they heard gunfire and realized they had been struck.
The man suffered a gunshot wound to the neck and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died from his injuries.
The woman was shot in the chest and drove herself to a hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
Police Continue Investigations
Chicago police are investigating each shooting separately and have not confirmed whether any of the incidents are connected.
Authorities have not released information about suspects or announced any arrests.
Detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine what caused the series of violent incidents that left three people dead and many others injured across the city.
