Authorities in Ontario County, New York, are continuing their search for a man who went missing after jumping from a boat into Canandaigua Lake.
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office said crews responded to the lake Sunday evening after receiving a report that a swimmer had disappeared in the water.
Officials identified the missing man as 51-year-old Patrick J. Colacino.
According to investigators, Colacino was on a boat near State Route 364 when he jumped into the lake to go swimming. Witnesses said they last saw him in the water, but within minutes they were no longer able to locate him.
The sudden disappearance prompted an immediate search operation involving multiple emergency crews.
Search Efforts Begin at Canandaigua Lake
After receiving the report, members of the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the area near State Route 364 to begin searching for Colacino.
Authorities deployed several boats equipped with sonar technology to scan areas of the lake where he was last seen.
A drone was also used during the search to assist crews from above and help locate any signs of the missing swimmer.
Despite extensive efforts throughout the evening, search crews were unable to find Colacino.
Officials said the search was suspended overnight but would resume Monday morning.
